Scope and Content Hillfort at Hill of Barra, Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire The fort is built on a grassy hill and there appear to be two phases of construction. Tradition has is that John Comyn, earl of Buchan, camped at the site prior to his defeat by Robert the Bruce at the battle of Barra in 1307. This is a view of the Hill of Barra. The earliest phase is represented by a pair of ramparts and ditches. These surround the later stone-walled enclosure. The defences are best preserved to the north and north-east and the entrance is to the east. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
