Scope and Content Recumbent stone circle at Loanhead of Daviot, Aberdeenshire This recumbent stone circle at Loanhead of Daviot. It is a very well preserved example of this kind of monument. Before the central ring cairn was built there may have been a wooden structure within the circle. One of the stones is cup-marked. This is a view of the circle and the ring cairn. The circle consists of eight stones, the recumbent and its two flankers. They are graded in size. The cairn is contained within a low kerb which is clearly visible. The area under the cairn contained pot sherds, charcoal, worked flint flakes and cremated human bones. These included the skull of a young child. Four post holes suggest the presence of a wooden structure. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
