Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Islesburgh, West Mainland, Shetland This chambered cairn is at Islesburgh, set on the SE slope of the sheltered voe. It is a very fine example of a heel-shaped cairn. A short distance to the W are the remains of a prehistoric house and an enclosure which may be contemporary. This is a view of the cairn's concave facade. The tips of the facade are missing, but the outline of can be traced from the cairn itself. A narrow passage led from the middle of the facade into a small rectangular chamber. The site was excavated in 1959, but there were no finds in the chamber. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
