Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Wideford Hill, Orkney This chambered cairn at Wideford Hill overlooks the Bay of Firth. The floor of the chamber is dug back into the hill side. The original entrance is downslope, though not now used. The site was excavated in the 19th century. This view shows the entrance to the cairn. This leads to a low passage which gave access to the burial chamber. Excavations in the 19th century found the cells to be empty, though the main chamber had been deliberately filled in with rubble.
