Description Clachtoll broch View towards entrance in outer wall leading to the broch entrance.

Catalogue Number SC 335952

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of SU 974

Scope and Content Broch at Clachtoll, Sutherland, Highland The broch at Clachtoll stands on a rocky knoll right on the sea. Part of the wall has collapsed over the low cliff; the interior has not been cleared and is full of rubble. This hides much of the inner face of the wall, but the outer wall is clear. This is a view of the collapsed broch. It cannot be entered, but the original entrance with its triangular lintel and door checks can be seen. There is evidence of a gallery in the opposite wall. An outer wall runs around on the S side. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
