Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Nether Largie South, Argyll and Bute The Nether Largie South chambered cairn is probably one of the oldest burial sites that make up the linear cemetery at Kilmartin. Its current form is partly due to reconstruction during the Bronze Age when two cists burials were added.. This is a view of the well-preserved chamber which is of the Clyde type. It is 6 m long and divided into four compartments. The use of upright slabs and drystone walling shows the skill of the builders. The original entrance has been blocked. The cairn was excavated by Canon Greenwell in 1864. The original floor level was 0.6 m below the current one. The innermost compartments were paved by pebbles covered by a layer of cremated bone.. Pottery and inhumations were also found, now in the BM. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
