Scope and Content Chambered cairn and Iron Age house at Unival, North Uist, Western Isles The chambered cairn at Unival is roughly square in shape. In the NE corner is the remains of an Iron Age dwelling which appears to have used the burial chamber as a cooking pit. This is a view of the cairn's remains showing some of the upright kerb-stones which mark the outline. A short passage on the SE side leads to the irregularly shaped chamber. Formed out of upright slabs, it is now roofless. The cairn was excavated in 1935 and 1939. The two skeletons were found in the chamber with sherds from Neolithic pots, a stone ball and worked flint and quartz. Pottery was also found in the house. The finds are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
