Scope and Content Chambered cairn known as the Calf of Eday Long, Eday, Orkney This is the Calf of Eday long cairn. It is now in a rather ruinous and overgrown state though two chambers are still visible. It is a multi-period monument and was excavated in 1936. This is a view of the remains of the cairn itself. It is a rectangular structure which actually covered two separate cairns. The earlier was heel-shaped. The later was also rectangular and covered a rectangular chamber. The cairn was excavated in 1936. Sherds of Unstan pottery, flint tools and two stone axes were found in the longer chamber. No bones were recovered, due to the soil conditions.
