Scope and Content Cairn at Duncraigaig, Argyll and Bute This cairn is at Duncraigaig. It was built with water-worn boulders and has been excavated on at least three occasions. This has led to the rather ruinous state of the cairn, with the stones now rather spread out. Some features can still be seen. This is a view of the cairn. A cist to the SE had a capstone 4.2 m by 2.5 m. It contained the cremated bones of up to ten people and an inhumation burial. Two other cists are from a later period and contained cremations and grave goods. The earlier chamber was found in 1864, in the SE perimeter, by Canon Greenwell. The site was last excavated in 1929 by JH Craw who recovered a Food Vessel from two of the cists. They are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
