SC 335724

Description Detail of heraldic pediment.

Catalogue Number SC 335724

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of B 39392

Scope and Content Date-stone and pediment with Buccleuch arms on Dalkeith Tolbooth, Midlothian In 1759 Dalkeith Tolbooth was 'the private prison and court house of the Regality of Dalkeith and the property of the family of Buccleuch... past all memory.' It was probably built in the second half of the 17th century to replace an earlier one. The 1648 date-stone probably came from Dalkeith Palace around the year 1800. The initials belong to Francis, 2nd Earl of Buccleuch and his wife Margaret Leslie. The arms of Scott of Buccleuch are displayed on the pediment above the door. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
