Scope and Content Logboat from Loch Arthur (no. 1), Nithsdale, Dumfries and Galloway The logboat (otherwise known as a 'dugout' or 'canoe') is a simple and 'primitive' boat, but this does not imply that it is necessarily early, most examples recovered being medieval or later in date. This is the longest logboat to have been found in Scotland. Discovered in 1874 it is dissimilar-ended with a fitted transom; the 'steps' within the bow are unique and the bow may represent an animal's neck and head. the National Museum of Scotland.
