Scope and Content Duntreath Castle, Strathblane, Stirling, from the east Duntreath Castle, home to Sir Archibald Edmonstone, dates from the 15th century. The castle was reconstructed in 1890 by the architect, Sydney Mitchell, and later, in 1898, photographed by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The east front was redesigned with a long approach down the valley, and an entrance archway inspired by Falkland Palace. Stretching across the entrance front is the long gallery, its twin towers providing the perfect place to watch approaching guests. The Prince of Wales was a frequent guest at the castle in the 1890s, travelling by royal train to Killearn Station, and from there to Duntreath for the shooting season, and for visits to his friend, Mrs Keppel, sister of Sir Archibald Edmonstone.
