Scope and Content Bedroom, Inglewood, Tullibody Road, Alloa, Clackmannan The interior of Inglewood was photographed in 1900 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, shortly after the house was built. The house, designed by the architect, Sydney Mitchell, was the home of a local industrialist, A P Forrester Paton. The bedroom, with boldly patterned Art Nouveau wallpaper and curtains, is fitted with white painted built-in units to door height. The fireplace, with panels of ornamental glass and shelves for bric-a-brac, doubles as both inglenook and 'cosy corner'. The 'cosy corner', popular in the 1890s, was basically an arrangement of two sofas at right angles to each other, with a high back and shelves for bric-a-brac. Sometimes it consisted of merely a seat, placed by a fireplace to resemble an inglenook. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
