Scope and Content Gallery, first floor of south range of Falkland Palace, Fife Falkland Palace was remodelled in 1537-41 for King James V (died 1542). The south range dates from his reign, as do the exteriors of the earlier buildings. The east and north ranges were probably both built for King James IV (1488-1513). This gallery connects the row of courtier's apartments on the first floor of the south range, beneath the chapel. The stained-glass windows, like most of the rest of the interior, date from the 1890s. Falkland Palace's late 19th-century alterations and restorations were carried out for John Crighton-Stuart, third Marquis of Bute, who became hereditary Keeper in 1887. The work continued under his heirs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
