Scope and Content Ceiling of turret bathroom, second floor, gatehouse, Falkland Palace, Fife Falkland Palace was remodelled in 1537-41 for King James V (died 1542). The south range dates from his reign, as do the exteriors of the earlier buildings. The east and north ranges were probably both built for King James IV (1488-1513). This is the ceiling of the turret-room off the second-floor Dressing Room in the gatehouse. It was converted to a bathroom as part of the late 19th-century work carried out for the third Marquis of Bute. Falkland Palace's late 19th-century alterations and restorations were carried out for John Crighton-Stuart, third Marquis of Bute, who became hereditary Keeper in 1887.
