Scope and Content St James Place, Kinghorn, Fife Kinghorn was a royal burgh by about 1170. It had a weekly market from 1285, but was not represented in parliament until 1470. Much of the burgh was rebuilt in the 19th century when the linen industry brought new prosperity. Many of the house on St James Place have crow-stepped gables and pantiles, typical of Fife vernacular architecture. The street was probably named after the now-vanished Chapel of St James and its associated hospital established in the 15th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
