Scope and Content Ground plan of Nairn Town and County Buildings, Highland Nairn Town and County Buildings replaced an earlier tolbooth which was itself a replacement for one accidentally burnt by soldiers in 1716. The construction cost was shared between the burgh and the county. Initially only two cells were provided. In 1837 one of the courtrooms and another smaller room were also used as cells. A stone-flagged jail-extension was built at the rear in 1844. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
