Scope and Content Arbroath Town Buildings, Angus Arbroath Town Buildings were built on the High Street, opposite the old tolbooth, and next door to the building the council originally shared with the guildry. In 1844, a public outcry stopped the council renting out the basement as shops. Most of the front of the town buildings is original, except for the main entrance and the extension over the alley, all built in 1844. The extension replaced a bridge built in 1820 which joined the Town Buildings to the next-door guildry building. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
