Scope and Content Cross-slab known as Sueno's Stone at Forres, Morayshire Sueno's Stone is a 7.6 ton slab of stone, probably from the coast at Covesea some 15 km away. One story is that the stone commemorate a major battle against Norse settlers from Orkney. Found buried in 1726, the stone is now covered by a glass case. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. It shows a besieged broch, a fleeing army and a number of headless bodies. The head in the box may be the defeated leader. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
