Scope and Content Cross-slab known as Craigton 2 (or the Golspie Stone) at Dunrobin, Sutherland, Highland This cross-slab was moved from Golspie Churchyard to Dunrobin Castle Museum in 1868. It was reported in being in the churchyard since at least 1780 but local tradition claims the stone was originally from Craigton. This is a drawing of the stone which appeared in John Stuart's 1856 publication 'The Sculptured Stones of Scotland'. The cross has a long shaft. It is surrounded by interlace and key-work. A later inscription reads 'Heir is the burial plaec to Robert Gordon eldest son to Alex Gordon of Suthe[rland]'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
