Scope and Content Settlement and cultivation remains at Linnhall, Dumfries and Galloway Aerial photography revealed the remains of a prehistoric settlement situated some 210m north-east of Linnhall steading in 1994. Traces of field-banks, cultivation remains and quarry pits are scattered across the surrounding landscape. Roughly circular, the settlement lies within a ploughed-down bank (traces of rig cultivation can be seen around the settlement). The interior has been scooped into the west-facing slope, but no internal features are apparent. Settlements like this enclosed timber-built round-houses with a yard for keeping animals and storage. A mixture of animal husbandry and arable cultivation were likely practised. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
