Scope and Content View of Parliament Hall from George IV Bridge, Parliament House, Parliament Square, Edinburgh Parliament Hall, built by Sir James Murray in 1639, was the meeting place of the Scottish Parliament and the Outer House of the Court of Session. At present it is a meeting place for lawyers and those they represent. The view from George IV Bridge is the only one of the original Hall where, in 1661, the Marquis of Argyll was tried for complicity in the death of Charles I. The Scots Parliament appears in the records in the later 13th century. It met as a single body in one chamber: no distinction was made among the 'Three Estates', the clergy, nobility and burgesses which comprised the Parliament. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
