Scope and Content Beith Town-house, North Ayrshire Beith Town-house was constructed in 1817 by public subscription, and owned by the subscribers until 1838. It probably occupied the site of a 17th-century tolbooth which housed but was abandoned in 1768. The Town-house had a cell and shops on the ground floor, and a court-room and public reading-room on the first floor. The burgh bell, cast in 1823 by Thomas Mears, was a gift. None of the original interior survives. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
