Scope and Content Steeple staircase inside Banff Town-house, Aberdeenshire Banff Town-house accommodated the town and county councils. The steeple replaced a dangerous one demolished in 1762. The main building replaced the old 16th-century tolbooth which was also demolished in 1794. The local MP donated 100 guineas to the cost. This is the view looking down the spiral staircase in the steeple almost from the top. The staircase is cantilevered and newel-less. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
