Scope and Content Doorway in blocked pend in Kirkcudbright Tolbooth, Dumfries and Galloway Kirkcudbright Tolbooth was paid for by local landowners and from fines. Sir John Gordon of Lochinvar also loaned £2000 to be repaid from council rents and selling booths in the new tolbooth. It was replaced in 1788 because it was too small. There are traces of an arch in the north wall. Originally this led into a pend which went through to the rear of the building where signs of another entrance survive. The pend was blocked in 1754 when the jail extension was added. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
