Scope and Content A broad cobbled street lined with shops flanking the gable end of a tall Victorian Gothic building with balustrade above the large entrance arch and multi-turreted towers on each side. Young standard trees in protective railings are on the left. A group of children with a perambulator stand beside the watchmaker's shop and a small girl sits in the printer's doorway with another child playing in the gutter. The square in the background has a large squat market cross well, built in 1807. Shop premises include - [?] Watchmaker and Jeweller; The Milestone (?) Shop, which appears to have picture postcards on display boards; J Lang's Printing Office; G Paton, Flesher; G Rodger, Clot[hier], with blinds drawn. Linlithgow Palace is near by.
