Scope and Content A group of children are sitting on a pile of earth at the side of the road before a creeper covered Gothic apse ruin. The large building beyond, with dutch style gables and tall mullion windows, is Madras College. A man is walking in the road admiring the chapel with its tracery in the windows. A girl leans against the lamp post. Ornate iron railings on a low wall divide the chapel from the road. The Dominican monastery was founded by Bishop William Wishart in the late 13th century, with the chapel dating from the 15th century. Madras College was founded by Rev Dr Andrew Bell (d.1832), the foundation stone being laid on 6 April 1832.
