Scope and Content The ruined castle stands on a wooded mound, with a large keep and a turreted building adjacent, standing to full height; outer wall, field and trees below. It is an L-shaped 14th century towerhouse with 16th century courtyard buildings. The outer defence walls were constructed in 1427. Craigmillar was one of the residences of Mary, Queen of Scots, and place of the signing of her husband, Lord Darnley's, murder bond.
