Scope and Content High Street, Falkland, Fife Falkland began as a village overlooked by a castle of the Earls of Fife. The castle became a royal hunting residence in 1437 and in 1458 Falkland, now a town, received burgh status so it could support the court. After 1700, weaving was its main industry. The High Street contains many houses from the 17th to the 19th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
