Scope and Content Mr Bruce Maxwell, Clock Winder explains the clock pendulum situated [in its original 1840 case] in the belfry directly below the clock room in the clock tower. The pendulum bob swings from side to side. The pendulum is 13ft (c.4m) long and has a beat of 2 seconds to complete each swing (00:13). The plate running horizontally is called the beat plate. This helps to 'set' the clock. The clock is adjusted by the 'rating nut' just underneath the pendulum. If this is rotated clock-wise, the weight is lifted slightly, making the clock go faster. If turned anti-clockwise, it lowers the weight making the clock slower. One complete revolution of the rating nut is a minute per day (01:08). The rating nut is etched into 60 seconds. The bell behind the pendulum case, was cast by the same foundry that cast 'Big Ben' [Whitechapel Foundry, London] (01:31). Sound: sound Colour: colour Running time: 1.44 mins
