Scope and Content A tailrace is common in water power production sites such as watermills and hydro-electric power station turbine houses. The tailrace is the outlet from which the water that has been harnessed to drive a waterwheel or turbine runs out of and away from the site under gravity. The stop log(s) are used to block the tailrace outlet(s) for carrying out repairs or inspections.
