Scope and Content A collection of copies of photographs by the Office and Ministry of Works, Department of the Environment, Scottish Development Department, and other government agencies. The majority relate to Properties in Care, Listed Buildings, and Scheduled Sites.
Archive History The collection comprises copies of images collected by RCAHMS prior to c.2005 to be added to the open access collection of mounted photographic prints. Many of these prints were then recatalogued with RCAHMS references, and may lack the original donor reference. Subsequently many of the original negatives and master print collections have been transferred to HES Archives. As a consequence, many of these images are now duplicate surrogates, but as they have already been catalogued in detail to item level, they are being retained pending a future appraisal and rationalisation project.
System of Arrangement The collection is mostly arranged according to catalogue number prefix, ie, A, AB, ABD, AG, AGD, and so forth.
