Scope and Content Horsemarket, Falkland, Fife Falkland began as a village overlooked by a castle of the Earls of Fife. The castle became a royal hunting residence in 1437 and in 1458 Falkland, now a town, received burgh status so it could support the court. After 1700, weaving was its main industry. The Horsemarket contains houses dating from the 17th to the 19th century. The house on the right is called the Haven. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
