Scope and Content Chambered cairns at Coille na Borgie, Sutherland, Highland The chambered cairns at Coille na Borgie lie at the side of the road. They appear as elongated mounds of stones covered by heather. There are two, if not three, cairns here. This is a view of the cairns. The southern cairn is the best preserved and still has traces of its rectilinear forecourt. The chamber was divided into compartments. The northern cairn may represent two phases of construction. The structures were cleared out around 1867 when a small number of bones were discovered. No written record seems to have been made. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
