Scope and Content Detail of anthemion ornament on steeple of Ayr Town House ('Town's New Buildings'), South Ayrshire Ayr Town House was built near the High Tolbooth which it replaced. The building stone came from Cullaloe in Fife through the Forth Clyde Canal at a special cheap rate. The completion was celebrated with an inaugural ball in November 1830. The anthemion ornaments on the sides of the steeple are part of its baroque decoration. This complicated style contrasts sharply with the simple neoclassical style of the rest of the Buildings.
