Scope and Content Staircase and vestibule inside Ayr Town House ('Town's New Buildings'), South Ayrshire The Town House was built near the High Tolbooth which it replaced. The building stone came from Cullaloe in Fife through the Forth Clyde Canal at a special cheap rate. The completion was celebrated with an inaugural ball in November 1830. Like the rest of the building, the first-floor vestibule has much of its original plasterwork. The opening to the right used to lead to a block of offices, but in 1878 these were replaced by a link to the new main hall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
