Scope and Content Dumbarton Court-house, Dumbarton and Clydebank Dumbarton Court-house replaced the earlier tolbooth. The architect convinced the Jail Committee to build a separate prison and court-house, rather than combine them. The contractor was a councillor. Most of the funding came from the county council. The wings were added in 1862 after the county council and the government decided to enlarge the court-house. The architect's sketch plans were so good, they cancelled a planned competition. The town council moved into the new south wing. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
