Scope and Content Council-chamber in Rothesay Town Hall and County Buildings, Argyll and Bute Rothesay Town Hall and County Buildings, built on the site of two earlier tolbooths, was one of the improvements contained in an 1831 Act of Parliament. The clock was made in London in 1834 and donated by the 2nd Marquis of Bute. Despite alterations, the first-floor council-chamber survives, as does the 'spacious court room' for Sheriff, Burgh and Justice of the Peace courts. Originally there were also offices for the Town and Sheriff Clerks. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
