Scope and Content Lanark Town-house, South Lanarkshire Lanark Town-house replaced an older tolbooth which was too ruinous to repair. The gentlemen of the county contributed £100 to the building in return for the use of a meeting room. It was replaced by a new County Buildings and jail in 1836. The county-hall was on the first floor. The ground floor was converted into shops in the 19th century. The clock and burgh bells were housed in the nearby parish church. The large bell was recast by Thomas Mears in 1835. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
