Scope and Content Bell inside Cromarty Court-house, Highland Cromarty Court-house accommodated the county and burgh councils. It was built by George Ross, owner of the Cromarty estate. The cell block was added in the 1840s. The bell is inscribed with an ornate cross and the words: DIMAS CARRACA ANO DI 1771. It probably came from a Spanish trading ship named St Damasus.
