Scope and Content Cell block, Cromarty Court-house, Highland Cromarty Court-house accommodated the county and burgh councils. It was built by George Ross, owner of the Cromarty estate. The cell block was added in the 1840s. The prison extension with its exercise-gallery was approved for use in 1847. It had a document-store in the attic. Documents were kept safe from rats and damp by hanging them on hooks, Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
