Scope and Content Fireplace and arms of Charles I in debtors' room of Culross Town-house, Fife Culross Town-house was built in the early 17th century, probably replacing an early tolbooth dating from before 1588. The painted royal coat-of-arms comes from 1637 - the year Charles I's attempt to impose a Scottish Prayer Book started the unrest leading to the National Covenant of 1638.
