Scope and Content Lochmaben Town Hall, Dumfries and Galloway Lochmaben Town Hall replaced an earlier building which was in poor repair by 1723. The building costs were met by local subscriptions. In 1741 the Marquis of Annandale paid for the construction of a steeple. The steeple is the only part surviving from the 18th century. It was paid for out of the £150 gifted by the 3rd Marquis of Annandale 'for building a meal house and steeple' to a plan already drawn up. It replaced a cupola on the main block.
