Scope and Content Late 19th century view of Kelso Town Hall, Scottish Borders Kelso Town Hall was built in 1816 to replace an 'old and ruinous' tolbooth on the same site. It was paid for by the 5th Duke of Roxburghe and from a local subscription. Some of the old tolbooth's stone was probably reused. In 1904-6 the arcade was filled in and the rest of the outside of the Town Hall was altered. The simple columns were replaced, the clock tower was embellished and an elaborate pediment was added to the main entrance. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
