Scope and Content Main block of St Mary's College, St Andrews, Fife St Mary's College was founded in 1537 by James Beaton, Archbishop of St Andrews. Since its initial completion in 1544 (with the help of French masons employed on king's palace at Falkland), the college has been expanded and modernised. The courtyard front of the main block was remodelled by Principal Robert Howard in around 1620. The tower dividing the block has a crow-stepped gable. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
