Scope and Content Burgh arms inside Pittenweem Town Hall, Fife Pittenweem Town Hall uses the site of part of the Priory's Great House, granted to the burgh for use as a tolbooth in 1588 and acquired after lengthy litigation with the commendator. The Town Hall was built after the old building became dangerous. The burgh arms are painted above a remarkable Regency chimney-piece on the almost unaltered first floor. The now heavily-modernised ground floor held a cell and two debtors' rooms until 1847 when it was converted to police accommodation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
