Scope and Content View from south-south-west of Nos 17-23 High Street, Inverness This three-bayed block (centre) was built c.1845. It consists of shops with modern frontages to the ground floor, with flats and offices upstairs. The block is made from smooth ashlar masonry on three storeys. This shows the block with its ornate neighbour, 'The London House' (right) built c.1878. The building has architraved windows to the first floor, a cill course above, and a bracketed balustrade giving it a sense of grandeur. This block seems to have been used for both offices and as residential space in its history. The ground-floor space being the most valuable, would have always been taken up with shops.
