Scope and Content Jet necklace and flint knife from a cist at Poltalloch, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute On the gravel terraces around North Lodge, Poltalloch are a number of cists, stone circles and remains of prehistoric settlement. Around 4,000 years old, this jet necklace is one of the best examples found in Scotland. It was discovered during J H Craw's excavations in 1928. Within the slab-built cist fragments of burnt bones, human teeth, charcoal and ochre were also found. Recent study of similar examples from Strathclyde has suggested that such items were highly desirable in the Early Bronze Age. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
