Scope and Content Standing stones at Ford, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute There were originally two standing stones situated at the top of a slight rise, south-west of the Ford Hotel. One stone, reported as being only a few inches high in 1875, can no longer be seen. The remaining stone has straight sides and a flat top. This is a view of the remaining stone from the north. It is aligned north-east/south-west. There are no markings on the surface of the stone. According to the Ordnance Survey Name Book of 1875, the two stones were supposed to 'mark the site of an ancient grave'. The smaller stone is said to have been moved to Auchinellan House, having been removed from a pile of stones in the field. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
