Scope and Content Broch at Dun Carloway, Isle of Lewis, Western Isles Dun Carloway is one of the best preserved examples of a broch in Scotland. In places it almost stands to its original height. It is possible to see the basics of its construction as part of the wall has fallen down. This is a view of the broch showing the intramural galleries. Light entered them from openings in the wall. The scarcement ledge may have supported either the roof or an upper floor. It is unlikely that the broch was used above the first floor level. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
